Michael and Josie Herman, the creators of The Call of the Void, only decided to play the lead characters of Topher and Etsy out of convenience and a small production budget. Expecting that these two characters might need to have several retakes and pick-ups throughout the show, they felt they couldn't afford to pay two other actors enough to compensate for the expected time commitment.
